The Goal
To create a high-quality, reusable shopping bag that reflects the Charlies brand while providing a practical, long-term retail product for customers to purchase at the till.
My Approach
I approached this as both a product development and content-led project, combining brand-focused thinking with knowledge from my textiles degree.
Working closely with the buying team, I considered material quality, durability, and usability when reviewing product samples, leading to the selection of a jute-cotton blend tote bag.
What I Did
- Collaborated with the buying team to review and select product samples
- Supported the decision to use a durable jute-cotton blend tote bag
- Designed the printed artwork, ensuring it reflected the Charlies brand and audience
- Applied my textiles background to ensure the design translated effectively onto fabric and for large-scale production
- Prepared final artwork for print and manufacturing
- Created and edited a “day in the life” reel capturing my role and the design process
- Produced content suitable for social media and portfolio use
The Outcome
The tote bag was launched across stores, with an initial order of 10,000 units, and continues to be rolled out as an ongoing retail product.
The final design provides a practical, reusable “bag for life” style solution, while reinforcing brand visibility at the point of purchase.
The supporting video content adds an additional layer to the project, demonstrating how product development can be translated into engaging, social-first content and offering a more personal insight into the design process.
